Trasport Apex Body Meets With Home Ministry | Truckers Protest New Hit And Run Law
A nationwide protest by truckers is underway, opposing a new hit and run law which may entail heavy penalties including steep fines and up to 10 years imprisonment. The All India Motor Transport Congress has begun meetings with the Home Ministry, chaired by Union Home Secretary, Ajay Bhalla, to break the deadlock. The truckers are demanding that the government withdraw the law which has led to a strike, termed a ‘chakka jam’, that has paralyzed many cities, particularly affecting fuel inflow.
