Polar Stratospheric Clouds in Norway: Watch Videos of the Rare Phenomenon of Rainbow Clouds Lighting Up the Sky – INH24

Rare rainbow clouds, also called polar stratospheric clouds or nacreous clouds, recently appeared in the skies of northern Norway. These clouds, which form between 49,000 and 82,000 feet up in Earth’s atmosphere, are among the highest. The Polar Stratospheric Clouds are very rare due to the lack of moisture in the stratosphere layer. These clouds form at very cold temperatures, i.e., below -108 degrees F, when small amounts of moisture freeze into tiny ice crystals. While these clouds are vibrant, colourful and beautiful, these ice crystals can lead to the breakdown of the ozone layer, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These clouds are usually seen only two or three times a year during winter, and they glow during sunset or sunrise. Rare Rainbow Clouds Appear Over Finland!
